I have a fantasy party based on this CNN article listing the ten happiest countries in the world. I would invite one ordinary person from each country: a teacher, cop, accountant, construction worker, firefighter, machinist, doctor, you get my drift. We have so much to learn from them, why not over beer, wine and appetizers? I feel that a full-on dinner would be too stressful and detract from my global happiness search. But appetizers and wine from each guest’s country can really get a conversation going.
The ten countries listed are:
- The Netherlands
- I’d add Costa Rica
- I’d also invite Pharrell. I’ve seen him perform that song a couple of times on TV and he always looks like he’s having a good time singing what is, right now, the anthem to happiness.
CNN based their list on higher life expectancy, GDP, social support and other data. They also measured generosity, a nice trait for a guest who is being asked, “Why are you so happy?”
I’d need to find some venue larger than my home, but not so fancy that it would ruin the intimacy of the gathering. A local restaurant? A big party tent on the beach? Suggestions welcome!
And I already follow blogs from some of these countries!
